In the summer of 2020, TJ was finishing up his Masters degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center just as I was starting the same year-long program. TJ had been his class's President for a community service organization on campus and I was the newly elected President for my class. He messaged me on Group Me and asked for my phone number so he could help show me the ropes on how to run the organization. We talked on the phone for about 30 minutes (strictly business!) and he let me know to reach out if I ever needed help with anything. At that point, I forgot all about him. Fast forward to April of 2022 and I was finishing up my first year of medical school at Texas A&M in College Station. I had signed up to be a tour guide for our M1 Welcome Weekend- a Saturday where all the incoming first year students and their loved ones get to tour campus and meet faculty. As I was gathering up my tour group, I looked up and saw a tall man standing in front of me. He asked, "hey did you do Med Sci?" (our mutual Masters program). I said "yes, did you?" and looked at his name tag. It was TJ Egeland- the guy I had spoken to on the phone almost two years before. We talked on and off throughout the morning and realized we had grown up about 20 minutes away from each other. By the end of the event, I was very interested in him, but I figured it was hopeless between him being about to start medical school and my moving to Austin in the next few months. Before we parted ways, I made extra sure to let him know that he could reach out anytime if he ever needed anything. And for the second time, I forgot all about him. A few months later I was working at a kid's summer camp and received a text from TJ asking if we could meet for dinner while he was in College Station. I told him I wasn't available for dinner, but I offered to get coffee with him when we'd both be back in the Keller/Grapevine area. FIVE DAYS LATER, he returned my text and we agreed to meet up at ReDefined Coffee in Grapevine the following week. The day we met at ReDefined, I was extremely nervous. I remember the parking lot being very crowded and thinking, " It's going to be so crowded and I'm going to look silly when I'm looking around everywhere for him," "what if he's not as good-looking as I remember?" "what if I am hoping for something and this guy is literally just trying to get advice for school?" It turns out I didn't have to look silly when I went inside because TJ greeted me at the door with a hug. He was still the most handsome man I'd ever seen, and after buying my vanilla latte, we sat and talked for nearly four hours about everything under the sun. Within the week, TJ asked me to be his girlfriend and we've been best friends ever since. We are so excited to celebrate the beginning of our marriage with all of you!
