Lindsay spent many (many!) years working for this company. The Locks Cruise is still one of the best tours of Seattle! You get to cruise through both salt and fresh water and transit through the Ballard Locks (aka a boat ‘elevator’). Did I mention the incredible views of the Seattle skyline?
Fall foliage should be just about at its peak at the end of October. To see it in all its colorful glory, you might want to head to the Arboretum near the University of Washington in Seattle. There is also a Japanese Tea Garden you can pay a nominal feel to get into and check out.
Staying near our ceremony site in Mukilteo? Have a car? Why not spend a day exploring Whidbey Island?! Take the ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton on Whidbey Island. From there you can drive all the way up the island. Whidbey Island is one of the longest islands in the United States at about 55 miles long. At the northern tip of the island you will cross over the Deception Pass bridge. Definitely worth getting out of the car and peering over the side of the bridge or checking out Deception Pass State Park. After crossing over to Fidalgo Island, head east back to Interstate-5. From there you can head south and back to Mukilteo.
I can’t say this would have been on my list a couple years ago, but this is 2019! Last year the Space Needle got a huge refresh. Gone is the wire fencing. In its place is glass walls and benches. Gone is the exclusive revolving restaurant. Now, anyone who purchases a ticket can walk on the revolving glass floor where diners used to pay a premium for the opportunity to have dinner with a view. The Space Needle is now on my recommendation list!
One of the most famous attractions in Seattle is also a working farmers market. October is a wonderful time to visit the Pike Place because you don’t have the summer crowds. Make sure to check out the ‘flying fish,’ MarketSpice, Ellenos Yogurt, and Beecher’s Cheese. Grab a bouquet of flowers while you’re there too!
Looking for a rainy day activity? Why not head to the Seattle Aquarium! My favorite part is the huge aquarium in the front room. You’ll also find Giant Octopus, sea otters, sea lions, and many other creatures that make their home in Puget Sound.
Depending on traffic, you can reach Snoqualmie Falls in about 45 minutes from Seattle or 1hr from Mukilteo. The falls are 270 feet tall and are visiting by about 1.5 million visitors every year. Snoqualmie Falls is especially impressive during heavy rainy periods or times of extra snow runoff from the mountains. The foliage should be wonderful in Snoqualmie at the end of October.
You might know by now that I love to photograph this beautiful city of Seattle. I am all about the spectacular views. So even though I have already recommended Kerry Park and the Space Needle, I had to also add Sky View Observatory at the Columbia Tower- Seattle’s tallest building. Unless you are flying over city, this is the only view where you get to look down on the Space Needle. It is an incredible view!
Near Mukilteo you will find one of the most popular tourist attractions in Everett. The Boeing Everett Factory Tour. This is where they manufacture the 787, 747, 777, and 767. I can’t give your first hand knowledge about this tour, but I have heard good things about it. Advance reservations are recommended. Of note, you have to be at least 4 feet tall to go on the tour. They do provide a free locker to store your valuables, including purses, cameras, and cell phones.
