Our events start Friday morning, so it is recommended to arrive Thursday night if you are travelling. If you are planning on travelling on Friday and you will not be able to attend the Hindu ceremony, please attempt to arrive in time for the Western ceremony. Further timeline details can be found on the Schedule page.
The baraat is meant to bring the groom to the wedding venue with much pomp and fervor and is a custom that originated in North India but is adopted by other Indian communities as well today. The groom, decked in traditional Indian finery, is usually seated on a ceremonial horse (or an elephant, chariot, or vintage car) as his guests lead the way, dancing. Traditionally the groom's side participates in the baraat; however, we will be welcoming all that wish to participate in this event, regardless of affiliation. Just be ready to party!
Since this is a fusion wedding, we are allowing guests to wear whatever clothing style they wish. The bride and groom will be changing after the Hindu ceremony into western wear. There will be a break in events to allow guests to relax and change if they wish. As an FYI, the wedding party will remain in Indian clothing throughout the wedding. Suggested attire: Western: Formal/cocktail attire Indian: Kurtas for men, Saris for women (avoid red) Further details/options: https://www.theknot.com/content/what-to-wear-indian-wedding
Unfortunately our wedding venue is not very child friendly so we are unable to invite children under the age of 14 to celebrate with us. We hope you understand.
All wedding events will be held at the South Congress Hotel so we are encouraging our guests to stay here. This is the only hotel where we have a wedding block with a discount code. The Travel page has additional options at various budget points if you would prefer more choices.
Since our hotel and ceremony will be at the same location, we will not have any additional transportation provided. Downtown Austin has plenty of rideshare options available for anywhere you may wish to travel, including to/from the airport. In addition, the area around the hotel is very walkable with various shops, restaurants, and bars. If you are staying in Austin for an extended amount of time, it is recommended to get a rental car as there is not much public transportation outside of rideshare.
Yes! For our friends and family in India, as well as for those who wish to join us, we will be having a separate celebration in Bangalore in August 2022 (date to be determined).
