This Bavarian town — with no actual Bavarian history? — is a ton of fun in October. Set against the beautiful mountains of the central Cascades, Leavenworth is a popular destination year-round, but especially as the colors start to change. Oktoberfest vibes are strong here in October. Biergartens, brats and kitschy stores galore, it’s got a little something for everyone.
This is one of Washington’s most iconic (and gorgeous) hikes. For those reasons, unfortunately, it will be a ZOO on a Saturday in October. But, if you’re okay with parking a good distance from the trailhead and are up for a hard sweat, we could not recommend a better hike. If we’re lucky, the larches (pine trees whose needles turn bright yellow in the fall) will just be emerging. Please download the AllTrails or WTA app to safely track your trek (and to brag about your accomplishment later!)
Beers! Brats! Lederhosen! Gus-sized pretzels! Leavenworth Oktoberfest (it’s technically in Wenatchee, but who’s counting) is considered one of the best Oktoberfest celebrations in the country. (Quick disclaimer: this is NOT recommended as a pre-game for the wedding. Gotta leave some gas in the tank for Saturday night!)
