Jayk and I met during our new-student orientation at Asbury Seminary. We bonded over his cool tree tattoo and a shared love for the outdoors. We became friends over our first year while studying together for Church History exams. During another shared class in the fall of our second year, I found myself wanting to spend more time with this intriguing man. With the help of a couple wing-women (and The West Wing), we got to know one another outside the classroom too. We eventually stumbled our way through a first date and its been a beautiful adventure ever since. Some of my favorite dates have included stargazing, pumpkin-carving, nature walks and spending time in the blanket fort I built for us.
Our Spring semester was coming to an end, so we had planned to recreate our first date since Lindsay would be moving to Cincinnati at the start of the summer. So, the plan was to have dinner at the Bear & the Butcher in Lexington and then go for a walk in the park a couple blocks away. Unfortunately, when the day came, it was raining and gloomy, so we decided to nix the walk in the park, which is when I had originally planned to ask Lindsay to marry me. Now, for Valentines Day a few months earlier, Lindsay built an AWESOME blanket fort for us to hang out in, and we kept it up all semester, and we used it for movie-watching and homework. Back to the night of the date: we were getting ready in her suite, and I was in the fort room getting dressing. I was also super nervous. So, after I was all primped and ready, I decided to pull an audible, and I asked Lindsay to come in and join me in the fort. I was down on my knees, and when she got down into the fort, I asked her to marry me. She made sure to actually say, "yes!" which was a great relief. Then we went to the restaurant and enjoyed a lovely evening. Afterwards, some of our close friends from school had gathered in Lindsay's living room to celebrate with us & see the ring.
