What began as a cross-town rivalry turned into something much better... Lindsay and Graham met at a joint Duke and UNC business school Santacon mixer — the kind of holiday party where festive sweaters and school pride are equally on display. Lindsay was there with friends, one of whom gave her a nudge: “Go say hi to the only Duke person you know.” As fate would have it, Graham was friends with this particular Dukie and happened to be standing right there, wearing his finest Christmas sweater. He introduced himself and Lindsay — searching for something to say — blurted out, “I like your sweater.” Without missing a beat, Graham replied, “Thanks, my grandma knitted it for me.” ... his grandma has never knitted him anything in his life. Lindsay giggled awkwardly and soon walked away, not thinking much of it. But the story didn’t end there. Later that night, everyone migrated to a famous Duke bar, Shooters II, about half a mile up the road. Undeterred from earlier, Graham found Lindsay in the crowd (dancing by herself...). This time, he skipped the sweater backstory and went straight to the point. He asked her to dinner. She said yes. And the rest, as they say, is history...
