Our first date was a lunch date at this great, little restaurant called, Thai Orchid (yum!). I remember when I first saw Colton.... whoa baby!!! While munching on edamame, Colton was telling me how he recently moved into his apartment in Scranton. Me, loving plants, asked if he had any house plants in his new place. Sadly.... he only had one plant on top of his fridge, and then FAKE plants (yikes!). Before I knew it, we finished up lunch, and then took a quick trip to Home Depot where we picked out Colton a new plant. We still have it to this day, and it just might make an appearance at the wedding. We now jokingly call it our "love plant."
It was a dark and stormy night. The ring I had been holding for months was burning a hole in my pocket. When I got home that rainy Friday night, I planned to take Lindsay to the winery to propose. My original idea was to propose in the vineyard, however the rain was not letting it happen. I was looking out the window cursing the rain, while Lindsay was excited for it because we just planted grass seed. I told her she needed a break from work, and it was time for a date at the winery. Thinking nothing of it, she agreed because it's one of our favorite spots. Upon arriving, we started doing a tasting. Even though we live 5 minutes down the road and know the wines very well, it's our little tradition. We made some small talk with the young woman serving us, she just had a child. She asked us if we were going to have kids. To which Lindsay replied, "Yeah, if this guy ever musters up the courage to propose!" (Little did she know...) Lindsay then went to the ladies room. This was my chance to talk to Randy, the owner of the winery. I said to Randy, "I am proposing to Lindsay tonight" and showed him the ring. He was instrumental in helping me move the proposal to his Underground wine tasting room. When Lindsay returned, Randy came over and said, "Hey, do you guys want to go check out the new table in the underground room?" "Sure!" we said, "a private tour would be awesome." Randy showed us the bottling area, and then took us into the Underground room. He had it all setup with music playing and lights dim. Randy faked a phone call and said he would be no more than 5 minutes. Lindsay excitedly turned to me and said, "I can't believe he is going to let us hang out down here by ourselves!" This was my moment to make a move. Lindsay turned around for her glass of wine, and when she looked back, I was down on one knee asking her to marry me. We both cried and gave each other a kiss and a big hug. Despite the rain, it worked out more perfect than I could have ever imagined.
