Especially for those new to the Mass, watching the communion lines form might be an intimidating logistical experience. Whether you are a non-Catholic, or a Catholic who shouldn't recieve our Lord, all are welcome to walk towards the altar to recieve a blessing. To recieve a blessing, simply join the communion line when it is your row's turn, and cross your arms in front of your chest (make an X with your palms at your shoulders) when approaching the person distributing Communion. If you are uncomfortable with this, you are also welcome to remain in your pew, but know that some people may have to cross in front of you to get to the line. If you are kneeling, simply sit down in the pew as people pass in front to limit disruptions or awkwardness. All those who do not recieve Communion are encouraged to make an "Act of Spiritual Communion," which is a prayer to our Lord found on the back of the missal in the pew.
