Some love stories begin with a grand gesture. Ours began with a match—twice. We first connected on Hinge, exchanging messages but never actually meeting in person. To this day, we playfully debate who stopped responding first. Eventually, life got busy, and both of us moved on from dating apps entirely. Eight months later, fate (and Bumble) brought us back together. Once again, Linda liked Nicolas’s profile first, and he eagerly matched back—because he remembered her. Linda, however, did not. So, when Nicolas opened with, “How was the cruise?” referencing a conversation from months earlier, she was understandably confused. But curiosity (and a love of books) kept the conversation going. It was books, in fact, that finally led to our first date—Linda just had to argue about them in person. And argue we did! We couldn’t agree on which characters were the best or which book was the best, but what we did agree on was that we wanted to keep talking. We promised to take things slow, but the universe had other plans. Within a week, we were exclusive. Within two, we were officially together. From the beginning, making time for each other wasn’t always easy. Between Linda’s classes, work, and clubs, and Nicolas’s job and events, our schedules were packed. But when something—or someone—is important, you find the time. And we always did. Together, we’ve celebrated milestones—vacations, graduations, birthdays, holidays. We’ve also faced hardships—bar exams, loss, and difficult days. But no matter what, we’ve stood by each other, unwavering. Love isn’t just about shared interests, though we’ve blended plenty of those too. Nicolas, who once thought his time of being at a race before sunrise was long behind him, now shows up for Linda’s—sometimes even running in them when she signs him up without warning. Linda, who had never played Pokémon, now rarely misses one of Nicolas’s games. Linda has now watched all the Star Wars and the Lord of the Rings with Nicolas. But more than anything, we’ve shown up for each other in life’s biggest moments—the joyful, the painful, and everything in between. When Nicolas lost his grandfather, Linda, without hesitation, showed up at his grandmother’s house with flowers, despite barely knowing anyone there. And when Linda faced the loss of her dad’s wife, her Uncle Jimmy, and her beloved Poppy, Nicolas never left her side. He sat with her through hospital visits, spent the holidays comforting her, and held her hand at the funeral, even though it brought back his own grief. And in the midst of her own loss, Linda still never wavered in her love and care. Just hours after finding out about her Poppy’s passing, she was in a tiny cruise room with Nicolas, nursing him through food poisoning. She never left him suffering alone to enjoy the rest of her vacation. When he asked for the lights to stay on and the heat turned up—knowing both would make it impossible for her to sleep—she did so without hesitation. And when they finally made it off the ship, Linda walked over a mile in an unfamiliar city just to get him medicine and food he could stomach. Because love isn’t just about grand gestures—it’s about showing up when it matters most. And then, of course, there was the BAR exam. Through every breakdown, every moment of stress, Nicolas was there. He was there every day for the three months of studying, as well as the three months of wait on results. On the first day of the BAR Exam, when Linda thought she had failed after losing part of her essays, Nicolas rushed home to be with her—because that’s just who he is, and that’s just who we are for each other. And now, here we are, ready to say “I do,” knowing that love doesn’t always arrive how or when you expect it. Sometimes, it’s a slow burn. Other times, it finds you twice, just to make sure you don’t miss it. We cannot wait to celebrate our forever with all of you.
