Question

Format of Wedding

Answer

This is a Chinese Banquet style event and may be somewhat disorganized due to the nature of how these were held in the olden village days. Upon arrival at the venue, the banquet hall the wedding is held in will have a large portrait of the the bride and groom. At the entrance, there will be a table where family members will be collecting red envelopes and recording the gift amount. Before the banquet begins, there is an hour reserved for friends and family to take photos with the bride and groom while snacks are served to your table and you're free to socialize. Typically, immediate family will take photos first, followed by extended family, and then friends. Afterwards, the MC will direct everyone to witness the wedding party walk down the aisle which is then followed by the groom and finally the bride. There will be an exchange of rings, wedding cake cutting, and champagne toast between the bride and groom. Immediately after, dinner is served while the bride and groom get changed for the tea ceremony. Dinner is typically family style with 8-10 dishes share amongst everyone in the table. The tea ceremony is typically the largest portion of the wedding banquet as we bow and serve tea to their elders and receive gifts to bless the marriage. The MC's will typically announce each gift and the best man and maid of honor will assist the bride and groom put the jewelry presented to them on. This can go on for about an hour as everyone eats. Afterwards, the bride and groom will change outfits again before going around the room thanking everyone for their attendance and sharing a toast with each table. After that, festivities will wind down, and the servers will hand out some takeout boxes if you want some food for the next day (we stan no food waste)! In any of the intervals when we are prepping for the next portion of the banquet, the MC will provide entertainment to the guests, usually in the form of some live singing.
