Guayaquil has made significant strides in improving its safety in recent years. While it has some areas that are safer than others, overall, it can be considered relatively safe for tourists if you take common-sense precautions. Please, never go into a taxi without having the driver's information (personal recommendation: Uber). Additionally, please keep your wallet/purse close to yourself. Petty theft is the most popular type of crime in Guayaquil. Avoid being out at night if possible as that is when crime most likely occurs.
First, one of the best apps/services to use here is Uber to get around the city. It is very reliable in the city of Guayaquil. Additionally, Linda and I are looking into services to have a shuttle for our guests from Guayaquil to the beach. The shuttle would leave Saturday morning and return Sunday afternoon.
Linda and I will constantly update the travel page with new information. All those places listed are very accommodating to tourists and English speakers. Additionally, if you want to look into Airbnbs there are some great affordable options. However, please confirm with me the location first as you want to be careful about which part of the city you are staying in.
