They Met

August 9, 2016

Jacob and Kaitlyn first met through their mutual friend, Evelyn (Kaitlyn’s maid of honor). Jacob was working in Paws n Go, APU’s on campus convenience store, when Evelyn and Kaitlyn walked in to say hello. Evelyn introduced them to each other and then caught up with Jacob about his summer. After the girls left, Kaitlyn was excited to see Jacob again (since they were going to be neighbors) but didn’t think too much about the encounter. Jacob, on the other hand, knew there was something about Kaitlyn. “That girl was cute” said his coworker, to which Jacob replied “I know!”

The First Date

October 6, 2016

A couple months after they first met, Jacob and Kaitlyn went on their first date. Kaitlyn had class that morning and assumed Jacob was just going to swing by campus to pick her up. Once she walked out of class, she was surprised to see Jacob standing there with a bouqet of flowers and her favorite Starbucks drink. They got into the car, had lunch at Applebees, and headed off to Disneyland. Sitting there in front of the castle, Jacob decided to ask Kaitlyn to be his girlfriend. She of course said yes and the rest is history!

The Proposal

January 18, 2019

Jacob pulled off the most perfect proposal, despite Kaitlyn inadvertantly making a proposal impossible to pull off. Jacob called Kaitlyn’s parents on New Year’s Eve to ask for her hand in marriage. She was supposed to be out of the house, but decided to stay in which made it difficult for their conversation to be private. Jacob’s original plan was to propose on January 6th, the day after Kaitlyn drove back to school from winter break. Unfortunately, a storm was scheduled to come through California on the 5th, pushing Kaitlyn’s travel date to the 6th. A week before the new proposal date, the 18th, Kaitlyn decided to stay with Jacob’s family and commute to class. This made it absolutely impossible for his family to plan anything proposal related. Finally, the day came for him to propose...and Kaitlyn was sick. She convinced him she was fine and they went out on their date. The couple walked around Fashion Island a little bit and had lunch at Blaze Pizza. Kaitlyn barely touched her food and begged for him to finally take her to the beach for some fresh ocean air. Little did she know, Jacob’s sister Megan and their friend Cassidy were setting up the proposal spot at the beach and weren’t ready for them yet. After sitting in Blaze Pizza for a while, Jacob finally said “I think I’m ready to go to the beach.” As they pulled up, the song “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran came on the radio, setting the tone for the perfect proposal. The couple walked up to a spot that overlooked the ocean, and Kaitlyn noticed something was out of place. Waiting for them on the outlook was a blanket staged with framed photos of the two, candles, and a bouqet of roses. Kaitlyn turned to him as he got down on one knee and popped the question. She of course said yes!
