Van Gough lived in Saint Rémy and the area inspired many of his most famous works including "Starry Night." You'll find signposts throughout Saint Rémy that reveal additional context into the artist's life and inspirations.
Les Baux-de-Provence is a Medieval village at a fortified rocky site between Arles and St Remy-de-Provence. Les Baux is well worth visiting for the ancient village, the extensive fortified-chateau area, the magnificent setting and views, and the museums. Lots of trails and hiking opportunities in the surrounding Alpilles as well - you can even hike or bike from village to village!
One of the most provençal towns of all! There's a famous marché with many local goods on Tuesday mornings. Also near by and accessible via a short drive or a hike through the rolling hills is L'Abbaye de Sénanque: a 9th century abbey with gorgeous lavender fields (although September is not lavender season).
