We recommend cocktail attire. If you wish to show appreciation of the Chinese culture, you may also wear traditional Chinese outfits - qi pao/han fu for women, tang suit for men. Auspicious colors are red, gold, green, pink, purple, and blue. Wear what you feel best in! Our only request is to please avoid white as that is traditionally associated with funerals.
We will start our wedding celebration with "door games", a tradition where the groom must prove his devotion through a series of challenges set forth by the bride's family and bridesmaids. The challenges are usually playful and mischievous. If Alex can successfully complete the games, then he will be allowed to fetch Lily away to get married!
In Chinese culture, the tea ceremony is a ritual in which the bride and groom serve tea to their parents and family elders as a gesture of respect, gratitude, and acceptance into each other's families. In return, the bride and groom receive blessings and gifts from their elders, signifying the official moment of bride and groom becoming a part of each other's families.
We will be having a 15 course banquet and cake. Dishes being served involve many different seafoods (fish, crab, lobster, abalone, shrimp), along with chicken, pork, lamb, beef, and noodles. The food is Guangdong/Cantonese cuisine, originating from Southern China where the bride's family is from. At this time, we cannot accommodate for any special dietary restrictions, but please don't hesitate to reach out if you have a severe allergy so we can alert you on the dishes to avoid. Food is a very special and integral part of any Chinese celebration and we hope you will be able to enjoy the abundance of dishes on our special day!
