Our Love Story

He’s a hard-working northern Michigan guy — quiet, driven, and grounded in small-town life. She’s a downstate girl — raised in the suburbs, quick with a laugh, and always ready for a weekend up north. On the surface, their worlds were miles apart. But sometimes, life has a way of bringing the right people together exactly when it’s meant to. They first crossed paths on July 4th, 2017 in Harbor Springs. She was spending the holiday at her family cottage with friends, and he happened to end up in the same place with his friends after their longboards had been stolen earlier that day. They exchanged only a few words, never realizing it would become the beginning of their story. Years later, on New Year’s Eve 2020, they reconnected at a party he hosted — and this time, the timing was right. The connection was instant. Over the next 2.5 years, they navigated long distance between Harbor Springs and Grosse Pointe, making the drive whenever they could and spending weekends and holidays together. On one of their very first dates, he showed her some of his favorite places around Harbor Springs — scenic overlooks, winding back roads, and a hill on his property with a breathtaking view of Lake Michigan. It quickly became one of her favorite places too. Eventually, he moved downstate and they began building a life together while she finished graduate school. Together, they bought their first home and spent the first month making it their own — painting walls, creating new spaces, and turning it into a place filled with love, laughter, and late-night projects. Over Memorial Day weekend, he brought her back to that same hill overlooking Lake Michigan. In a proposal that felt perfectly “them,” intimate and simple with just the two of them there, he asked her to spend forever with him. Afterwards, they shared the happiest news of their lives and celebrated with their families. Looking back, it’s clear that everything really does happen for a reason.
