Daniel and Lillian met while they were both participating in a year-long evangelism training program based in Minneapolis, MN (where Lillian was living). During the January retreat for this program, Daniel and Lillian were at the Billy Graham training center in NC, and Daniel approached Lillian for a conversation. They shared some small talk on a short bus ride from the hotel to the chapel on-site. They sat next to each other during the service and continued to talk for hours after it had ended. They bonded over their breakup stories. The last day of this retreat, Lillian asked to get a picture with Daniel and snatched his phone number so she could send him the pictures (smooth). Lillian left this retreat and told her roommate, "I want to marry a man exactly like Daniel". Fast-forward to the end of March, Daniel prays and has a moment with God where he (Spark Notes edition) asks God if he could date Lillian as a potential future wife because he saw those qualities in her. He prayed that she would take initiative if it was right for them to be together. Sometime after Daniel prayed this, Lillian was leaving a shift at Starbucks, and it was snowing like crazy outside, her first thought was "I'm going to call Daniel and show him the snow". After a few times of Lillian calling (and low-key making it obvious she wanted to get to know Daniel), he caught on and started calling her too. Daniel and Lillian then went on to talk on the phone almost every night until 2-4 in the morning. After a few weeks of constant conversation, Lillian decided to purchase a ticket to a show Daniel was performing at in Baton Rouge, LA. It was in Baton Rouge that Daniel and Lillian realized they could work well together. A month later, Lillian made a trip to Georgia (where Daniel is from), and it was there on June 13th that he asked her to be his girlfriend.
