Depending on who you talk to, there are two versions of how Christina and Mike met. The first is that they met at the 21st birthday party of Janice (Christina's sister). Mike was a mutual acquaintance through Janice's then-boyfriend, Mike Mammel (now-husband). Neither remembers this occasion, though. Over the next 4 years, Janice would occasionally suggest to Christina that she date a friend of Mammel's. Christina would always say no because dating a friend of Mammel's (that she didn't even remember meeting) would be weird. At Janice and Mammel's wedding, Mike and Christina would finally meet. Both would arrive late to rehearsal and flirt during both dinner and reception. Mike eventually asked Christina to walk him back to his hotel room. Christina said yes, only to chicken-out when another bridesmaid joined them at the elevator. The next day, Christina would beg Janice for Mike's number (too afraid to ask him for it at brunch). They'd text, and that same Sunday night, Mike would drive all the way from Saline, Michigan to Northwood, Ohio to hang out with Christina. They've been hanging out ever since.
During their almost 7 years as boyfriend and girlfriend, Mike would vehemently reject the idea of marriage, stating it wasn't for him. He knew that no amount of bachelorhood and dating random girls would be as awesome as hanging out with her for the rest of his life; so the question of being without her was already answered. Realizing that if he didn't marry Christina he'd have a lifetime of nagging to put up with Mike finally caved in. On March 18th, while Mike and Christina were on vacation, they climbed Cobá Pyramid in Quintana Roo, Mexico. At the summit, when Christina's alarm went off to alert her that it was 11:11 (wish time), she turned around and told Mike to make a wish. Instead, Mike pulled a small gold Zelda-like treasure chest out of his pocket, got down on one knee, told Christina her 11:11 wish had finally come true, and asked her to marry him. She, of course, said yes. Saying yes wasn't the scary part, getting back down the pyramid was.
On an unusually warm Friday morning on September the 25th, Mike and Christina eloped to the Ann Arbor 15th District Court House. They wed in front of family, with their loving dog Falkor at their side. They hope to host a reception on their one year annivesary, where they can celebrate wih friends and family alike.
