So Anna is brave and daring and lived in the last Metropolitan City in the U.S. that is not Chicago - hint its in the state of New York - for 2 1/2 years, which is something I would never do. So that coupled with being 2 years my senior is why we didn't know each other in college even though we both went to Texas and lead YoungLife, but this did lead us to have many of the same friends. She moved back to Austin in 2017 and it didn't take long for us to cross paths by hanging out with these friends, but nothing immediately developed. The inflection point in my humble opinion was when I brought Bentley to a game of Volleyball one late spring afternoon. It took Bentley 4+ years to get me a girlfriend, but going 1 for 1 is not bad. From there we flirted at Sunday Soccer and Volleyball and I basically followed Anna around at our friend's Geena and John Hadden's birthday parties. Thankfully Anna responded by asking me to go to Deep Eddy Pool with her, which I was taken aback that my hovering was rewarded with being asked out. From there I talked to Anna most nights on the phone. Anna has an incredibly busy schedule because of her job (Freelance Styling), so I was pretty bummed when she told me that she was going to be traveling for work for the next 4 weeks - which included Dallas, Seattle and then finally Nashville for 2.5 weeks. I was expressing my frustrations to my roommate Michael Guarino and he plainly said - "Why not take her on a date in Dallas?" I shuttered at the idea of coming on so strong, but realized that this girl was very special and that I wanted to make my intentions clear that I was looking for the real thing, not just a summer relationship. I drove up to Dallas on a Thursday night and took her to a Rangers game on Friday. It was 90 degrees and humid and the Rangers won, which are 3 of the worst things possible for Matt on a first date, but it was the most fun I had ever had - it just felt natural to spend time with her.
