How We Met

Metuchen Softball

It was the spring of 2017 and Megan had recently moved to Metuchen the prior fall. She was excited to be reconnecting with her friend Marissa, who was in town to support her now husband, Joe in a local softball game. Megan arrived to the field while the guys were warming up, and joined Marissa on the bleacher in the dugout. Shortly after, the guys hustled in to prepare to start playing the game. Throughout the game, Megan took notice of one of the guys, Eric, frequently walking past her. (He would say that Megan had sat down where he usually puts his glove - but the bench had plenty of room!). After the game, they chatted a bit, and it came about that Eric bet Megan a dollar that she wouldn't show up to another game. Being competitive, Megan accepted the challenge, and you bet she showed up the following week! With new dollar in hand, they began to chat a bit after the games, and Megan told Eric about the local Barcade in town, Hailey's HarpCade, and he was intrigued. One of these evenings, the Tuesday after Memorial Day, Eric asked if Megan would like to go to Hailey's some time, and she said, "well how about tonight?". Unfortunately the HarpCade had closed for the night, so they made their way over to the main bar, Hailey's Harp and Pub, and were seated at a high top near the bar. This would go on to be the first of many dates to come :)

How he Proposed

A Birthday Surprise

The day of Megan's 34th birthday, she took off to relax, get a mani/pedi, and enjoy the day. As Eric was getting ready for work, she chatted with him about what they should do for dinner, when he replied, "we have a 7:30 reservation at Seasons 52 all set!". This made Megan smile that he had thought of one of their favorite restaurants to eat at. They had a lovely table near the bar, and had a delicious meal. As they were headed home, yet approaching the exit for Metuchen (where they had just recently moved out of when they bought a home in East Brunswick), Eric pulled into the right lane. He said, "wanna go to Hailey's?", and of course Megan was in agreement! It was such a great feeling to be spending the evening on her special day with her guy, and headed to a place that had wonderful significance for them. Unfortunately their table was taken, but they did have a nice spot with good positioning to watch and hear the local band play. They ordered a round of drinks, and enjoyed the evening before heading home. As soon as they came home and headed in, as they were putting their coats away, Eric wrapped Megan into a big hug and held her tightly. She could feel his heart pounding. As they gently came away, he said, "would you like your birthday present?". When she agreed, he asked her to turn around, and when she came back, he was on one knee with a ring box in hand!
