Neither of them wanted to go out that night. Madison was new to the city and Libby's friends were out of town. Both of them felt some strange reason to go out alone, even though neither had a habit of doing so. There was a meet-up happening at a bar in Chinatown after the Pride parade. Madison went across the street, ordered a shot, overpaid, then made her way to the event. Libby thought she might have been fashionably late enough, but still felt awkward enough being there. She was sporting earrings she had just purchased at the Pride parade earlier that day. Someone mentioned offhand that there was a bar social happening downtown, and being a social butterfly on the best night of the year, she had no choice but to go out. Then, they saw each other. Madison complemented Libby's new earrings, and Libby complemented Madison's shirt -- it was her grandmother's. There was a crowd of people around them but it seemed as though the room emptied. The universe had quieted. Nothing had ever mattered like this. What else is there to say?
