Great little town only 15 minutes away by car. Famous for its picturesque views of the coastline and of course food!
Marsala - yes like the wine. Stop at "Saline Della Laguna" for a bottle of wine and amazing views of the sunset. Across the way there is a museum where they explain how Sicilian Sea Salt is made, you can also buy some to bring home as well. There's also a few wineries pretty close by, look into "Donna Fugata".
Palermo is the biggest city on this side of the island. You could easily do an entire day here. There's some amazing churches and architecture to check out. For me, the "Palermo Cathedral" and the "Catacombe dei Cappuccini" are a must see. Check out this website for other fun stuff: http://www.visitsicily.info/en/10cosea/palermo/ A little further outside the city you'll want to stop at the cathedral in Monreale, Palermo, it is regarded as one of the most beautiful churches in Sicily. The walls and ceilings are lined with real gold mosaics, really something not to be missed!! Word to the wise: this is a big city, dont leave valuables in your car or flash your money around. We've never had any issues here, but be smart!!
The main town of Erice is located on top of "Mount Erice". There is cable car that joins the upper and lower parts of the town where you'll get some nice views along the ride (btw, they may charge for this). Cars and motorcycles cannot access the upper town itself, you will find parking at the bottom and walk around. Once you reach the top area, there is a large castle and courtyard overlooking the coast and the city of Trapani. Other than that, there are restaurants, pastry places, gelato and souvenir shops galore. Our favorite pastry shop is called "Antica Pasticceria del Convento" located at Via Gian Filippo Guarnotti, 1, 91016 Erice TP, Italy. Get the half moon shaped things with powdered sugar on top. They come stuffed with your choice nutella, pistachio or marmalade. Cousin Francesca also highly recommends "Pasticceria Maria Grammatico" located at Via Vittorio Emanuele, 14, 91100 Erice TP, Italy
EAT THE RICE BALLS (choice of prosciutto or chop meat). I'm told this is also a good spot for lunch and dinner. Make a res if you go for dinner! This place is right in the center of town. They also sell pastries, gelato and crema di caffe here.
This is the hot spot for the best gelato in town... that being said, I've never had a bad gelato here, so get it whenever you're in the mood
This is a new bar that opened serving some craft beers, its right across the street from Garibaldi Gelato.
Good option for dinner. Mostly meat dishes offered. This is also a good area to hang out and watch the locals.
It's really easy to rent a boat and check out the coastline. You can do this right in the Marina (where the wedding venue is located). My suggestion is to ask around for pricing, as there are multiple vendors in the same vicinity. If you're afraid of driving a boat yourself, you can also find some guided tours in the same area. So you can sit back, relax and have the captain show you around while you sip on some prosecco (BYOB). Once you get in the boat, exit the marina and drive left. You'll be able to see all the different beaches in one day. PS dont drive too close to the rocks, they'll make your boat sink.
