How We Met

We first met in Brazil during a time in our lives when we were both focused on serving our full-time missions. It happened at a zone conference—one of those ordinary moments that, at the time, feels small, but later proves to matter much more. Garrett had just arrived in the country, experiencing everything for the first time, while Liah had already been there for a few months and was beginning to feel more settled. We shared a simple conversation, the kind you don’t think twice about in the moment. We talked about California—how beautiful it is—and shared that we both had family there, which led to the realization that home wasn’t as far apart as it first seemed. It was easy, natural, and brief… and then life moved on. After that day, our paths didn’t cross again. One of us returned home about a year before the other, and for a time, our lives remained completely separate. Looking back, it’s almost ironic how something so small quietly planted the seed for something much greater. When we both eventually returned home, we reconnected as friends. During that time, one of us (Liah) was preparing to move to the United States to attend Ensign College, and having someone who understood what it felt like to leave home meant more than expected. What started as simple conversations quickly turned into a deep friendship. We supported each other, learned from each other, and found comfort in knowing we both understood what it meant to take big steps into the unknown. Over time, that friendship naturally grew into something more. On March 21st, 2024, we decided to begin our relationship, and from that moment on, everything changed for the better. Since then, we have continued to grow together, learning what love really means through everyday choices, patience, and shared dreams. What began as a brief conversation in Brazil has become a relationship built on faith, friendship, and a deep desire to build a life together. The idea of sharing not just this life, but eternity together feels like the most natural and beautiful next step—as we look forward to growing old side by side and multiplying the love we already feel.
