It is with a heavy heart that we write this. Due to COVID-19, we have decided to postpone our wedding ceremony and reception for June 5, 2020. This decision was not made lightly and we are beyond sad it has come to this point. However, we want to look out for the health of our families and friends from all over the United States and beyond. Chandler and I are eager to begin our lives together so we will still be moving forward with a small, informal, immediate family only ceremony on June 5. We are saddened that you are unable to witness our ceremony in June, but so hopeful and excited to see you all on September 11, 2020. Our plan is to go ahead with a wedding ceremony and reception as a “formal” wedding would. We are eager to have you join us as we will move forward in recommitting ourselves to God and each other in September. The September wedding will be held at Bethel Christian Reformed Church at 4:00 PM followed by a reception at The Rock Golf Club in Waupun, Wisconsin. Please either keep your RSVP the same or re-RSVP according to your fall schedule. Feel free to text, email, or message either Chandler or Lexy for anymore questions and concerns. As we begin our lives together, we ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers. We are incredibly thankful for those who have reached out to us and extended many thoughts and prayers during the last month. It has meant more than you know. We know our God has a plan in these unique times and we live in the promises He has laid out for us. In Christ, Chandler & Lexy **take a look at our little love story below if you haven't had the chance yet**
Chandler and I met like a lot of other couples - in high school. We really did not interact with each other until I was a senior and he was a junior. Every year our school put on a Sadie Hawkins dance (where the girls ask the guys). I was looking for someone to ask when Chandler piqued my interested. One of my friends at the time encouraged me to ask, however, I was not convinced. I needed to know for sure whether or not Chandler would actually say yes. So, she so willingly talked to Chandler and asked if he would say yes if someone asked him to the dance. Chandler, begrudgingly, said he would most likely say yes (he's not much of a dancer). I asked him to Sadie Hawkins and both of us, rather shyly, talked for a lot of the night and had a good time. This small event brought me closer to someone that I never thought I would be friends with. Chandler and I shared an instant connection and talked almost every day before and after school. However, because I was a senior, I was looking at college as a chance to start fresh, make new friends, and not necessarily have a boyfriend leaving Wisconsin. Chandler felt otherwise. Chandler asked me to go out with him twice throughout the year, and I, stubborn as can be, said I just wanted to be friends. Because of who Chandler is, he was sweet enough to oblige and just be friends. We went to Christmas Banquet together and were really solid friends for each other during the year. When Chandler decided to move on and date someone else our friendship faded away.
Fast forward three years. Two years of college behind me, a year off with YWAM in Australia, Chandler's semester in college, and finding a passion and full time job opportunity as an electrician, our lives were completely different than they were in high school. After many series of events both of us were single and conveniently hanging out in the same friend group. One day, I distinctly remember getting done working out and having a voicemail from Hunter. Hunter and Jessica (two of our closest friends) wanted to go see The Incredibles 2. I quickly went home and showered and asked who was going to come along with us (because who wants to third wheel to a movie?). I was told Chandler was coming along, but honestly did not think much of it. We sat by each other at the movie, talked a lot of the night, and instantly reconnected as if we were in high school again. We returned to Waupun and I invited Chandler to come over and watch another movie and catch up. We spent the next three to four hours catching up and it was like we had never left high school - except this time I was excited because I saw something in Chandler I hadn't seen in the past. We spent the next month or so talking and discreetly hanging out and eventually starting dating on August 5, 2018. I guess you could say the rest is history. Almost a year of dating while I was at Dordt College in Iowa and he was here in Waupun working and we are engaged and eager to get married!
Whenever Chandler and I talked about getting married or when he was going to propose, I always told him that I knew when it was going to happen - just because that's who I am. Chandler cannot keep a secret and I had it all in my head that I knew when he was going to propose. Every time I thought he was going to propose, he didn't so I became very anxious and patiently (he'd probably think different) waited. The day Chandler proposed was a gorgeous June day. Chandler and I had decided probably back in March that we wanted to take a day and head up to Door County, WI. For those of you who don't know me, my family goes up to Door County every Thanksgiving and it has increasingly become one of my favorite places in Wisconsin. Thus, because Chandler loves me, he decided to come along with me for the day. I had thought before hand that he was maybe going to propose, but shot that down when I realized we were going to be taking my car - there was NO way he could get the ring into my car without me finding out.
The whole day kind of seems like a blur when I look back at it. We spent some time shopping, wine tasting, eating good food, and enjoying each other's company. Peninsula State Park is located in Door County and Chandler suggested we go for a drive through the park, however, I wasn't thrilled about the idea of spending between $10-$20 just to drive through a park and look around. However, he convinced me. We get to the park and it turns out it was free to drive through that day - what a coincidence! (I found out later that my dad had told him that earlier that week) Chandler and I drove around admiring the beautiful scenery and decided at one point to get out and go for a walk. We found these stairs that seemed to lead down to an overlooking. As we climbed down the stairs you could tell what we were about to see was going to take our breath away. Fortunately, there were only two other people down there that didn't stay much longer than a couple minutes, leaving us the only people down there. After about 10 minutes talking and looking around, I suggested we head out. Chandler bent down and looked to be fixing his sock, but little did I know he pulled a ring box out of his boot and proceeded to get down on one knee and ask me to marry him. Stunned, in utter disbelief, I said yes. We spent the rest of the day enjoying some time by ourselves and then telling our family throughout the evening. As I said before, we are so excited to get married and we cannot wait to celebrate with all of you!
