How We Met

2011 | Colby College

It all began in early 2011. Tucked away on Mayflower Hill, snow swirling outside, Lexi and Rob settled into Miller Library’s “street” to read and study great literature. It was the beginning of the Spring semester, and classes were back in swing after Jan Plan (ask Rob about the Alexander technique). Lexi was a 19-year-old sophomore, Rob a 20-year-old junior. Both English majors, Lexi and Rob were enrolled in the same course: Edith Wharton and Henry James. As another Maine winter dragged on, and the two made their way through the works of these literary legends, and their relationship gradually began. And the rest of the story? If I recounted it here, it might not keep you on the edge of your seat, like Lexi and Rob surely were while reading The Age of Innocence all those years ago (ha). But it would take about as long to get through as a Henry James novel. And you’d see that it’s been a marvelous (near) decade of friendship and love, sprinkled with some hilarity, plenty of adventure, occasional drama, and a whole lot of happiness. “There is one friend in the life of each of us who seems not a separate person, however dear and beloved, but an expansion, an interpretation, of one's self, the very meaning of one's soul.” ― Edith Wharton

The Proposal

2019 | Boston, MA

And on June 15, 2019, they got engaged! After a lovely dinner in Beacon Hill, Rob surprised Lexi with a stay at the Liberty Hotel. Once up in the room, he proposed. Lexi was thrilled! The night had clearly been building to something, and here it was. Or so she thought... Rob suggested heading down to the lobby for a drink. It was late, probably 9:30pm. The hotel is a former jail and it has a very cool lobby that is a popular spot on weekend nights--the lights are low, it's packed with people, and there's also a DJ. Walking into the crowded lobby and looking around, Lexi suddenly began to register familiar faces. She saw her dad, her niece, her college friends. There were cheers and claps. Lexi was in shock! Everyone from Lexi and Rob's immediate family was there in the lobby, along with a whole bunch of close friends, some even having traveled from New York City to be there. It was an amazing, successful surprise, and an incredible, fun night. They laughed, celebrated, and danced well into the night. We can't think of a better way to have kicked off this wedding experience, and we'll carry the spirit of that night with us to the big day. Can't wait to celebrate with you all!
