It’s happening!

Who knew a first date in 2012 would lead to a wedding in 2021?! They initially met through mutual friends in College - Mike went to Iowa and Lexi went to Iowa State. After graduating, Lexi interned with Red Frog Events in Chicago and helped manage the Iowa Warrior Dash during the summer of 2012. Mike lived in West Des Moines at the time and reached out to volunteer at the race, where he was asked to lift A LOT of heavy things. They stayed in touch throughout the Summer, then Lexi went back to Iowa for a friend’s wedding that Fall and asked Mike to grab a drink. At the time, they weren't looking for anything serious but their first date turned into a full weekend spent together - playing intermural kickball, eating sushi, watching movies, playing drinking games and going out downtown Des Moines. What started out as long distance eventually turned short distance when Mike moved to Chicago in 2014! Over the course of their relationship a lot of time was spent traveling to see each other and when they couldn’t stand the commute anymore, they moved in together in 2017! Throughout the years, their anniversary has always been up for debate and Lexi can’t wait for an official date to celebrate!

Mike asked Lexi's Dad for his blessing over the Holidays in 2019. He planned to propose in the Spring, not knowing a Pandemic would strike! After lockdown in March, he and Lexi were both working from home...together 24/7...making it extremely difficult to shop for rings and plan a proposal, but he was able to find the perfect ring while they were home in Iowa and Lexi was none the wiser! It was a low-key Thursday evening in June. They finished work for the day, the weather was gorgeous and they were grilling brats on their rooftop. Mike was at the grill and Lexi walked over to the railing, her back to Mike, to look at the skyline and the dogs at the park. When she turned around, Mike was on one knee, ring box in hand! After he proposed - Lexi was completely shocked and didn't know what to do with herself or her hands, but of course said YES!!! They popped champagne, facetimed their family and friends...and ate the brats! They are so excited for this next chapter and can't wait to celebrate! See you in the Windy City!
