Lexi will tell you that the first time they met, Lou didn't remember that they did--it's true; he feels terrible about it. Lou will tell you that they met for the first time at the 4Cs conference in Pittsburgh in early 2019. After the conference's Black Caucus meeting, the two were re-introduced by a mutual friend, Khirsten Scott, and waited in line to pay dues. Lexi didn't know that Lou had planned on paying the dues online and it was she that kept him there. The following Monday, after returning from the conference, Lexi sent Lou an email. On the surface of the email, she followed up from their meeting and thanked him for the engaging conversation at the Caucus; the intentions hidden in that email, however, were romantic. Lou will tell you that he meant to send his own “follow up” email, but Lexi got to him first.
Before leaving for dinner to celebrate Lou's 33rd birthday, Lou asked Lexi if they could have a quiet moment to talk. Lou told Lexi just how much he loved and appreciated her, read her a poem he wrote about them, and then popped the question. Miss Sandy almost derailed Lou’s plan by trying to jump in between the two, demanding attention. This just brought more laughter to an already joyous occasion. Lexi had no idea it was coming, but she said "yes!"
