Lexi and Kyle met through mutual friends in high school (“when Kyle took Veronica to prom”). While they went to different schools, they saw each other pretty often at social gatherings on the weekends. Kyle always had a crush on Lexi, but when they first met, she was already in a relationship. The two stayed in touch after high school, and when they were both single, Kyle finally worked up the guts to tell Lexi how he truly felt when they were home for winter break. The couple began a long-distance relationship, Lexi in High Point, NC, and Kyle in Smithfield, RI. They stayed together through Lexi’s transfer to University of Tennessee (from which point Kyle would maintain a forced allegiance to “that obnoxious Tennessee orange”). After college, Kyle was working in Boston and Lexi moved to Florida her first job. They were very much in love, but after a couple years, the distance became difficult to maintain and they mutually decided to take a step back from the relationship in 2012. Though they both tried dating other people, it was clear that nothing would ever be as special as the bond they shared. In 2014, they resumed the long-distance relationship and it was like no time had gone by. Happily, Lexi was offered a position with the Boston Bruins not long after, and they could finally share their love in the same city (where Kyle would get a crash course of what it was like “living with the most organized, type A person” he ever met). They’ve been continuing to build their life together ever since. When reflecting on their story, Lexi summed it up best: “we have so much history that I don’t really know where to begin or how to end, but I know we can’t wait for more.” *During a "break" with her high school boyfriend, Lexi and Kyle shared their first kiss in Will Kopelcheck's basement. Unfortunately, "Kyle didn't impress" (his words), and she got back together with said boyfriend for a little longer, delaying Kyle's love confession. Love is patient, as they say.
Before they ever started dating, Kyle told his friends that Lexi would be the girl he would marry someday. Though they had talked about marriage often, Kyle was able to surprise her with a proposal that she did not see coming. After months of designing the perfect ring, he hid it in the jacket he planned to wear for days until the day. It was a beautiful October Saturday in Boston, and Kyle had laid the groundwork for a seemingly casual, but explicitly scheduled, afternoon together. They’d take a stroll to a local brewery and catch some sun. Lexi started the day with a workout class with friends, and called to say they were “just going for a quick coffee afterwards”. Lexi was feeling very “go with the flow” that day, and coffee turned into a 90 minute lunch. Cut to Kyle pacing nervously in their apartment until she finally got home - and announced she had to do some work before they could leave! Somehow, he remained calm in the face of sheer anxiety to ensure he didn’t give anything away. Kyle had scouted the perfect spot for months: at the end of the pier in East Boston attached to the park, with the Boston city skyline serving as a beautiful and significant backdrop. It was in Boston that their relationship came full circle, and there was no where else that meant more to them as a couple. As they approached the area, Lexi happened to sit down on a bench to take in the view. Kyle sat down next to her and spoke the words he had been rehearsing all week (months). He took a knee and asked her to marry him. A look of complete surprise was quickly replaced by tears of joy running down her face as she said “yes!”. Kyle left no detail uncovered, and Lexi’s friend Paris was hiding in the bushes snapping photos of the moment (it took Lexi a moment to realize this wasn’t a stranger who happened to live in the park...Paris went deep undercover). Of course, they skipped the brewery, and spent the afternoon calling and face-timing family and friends with the news.
