We met at a mutual friend's party in college in 2012, but didn't think much of it. We knew we had a lot of things in common like music, our sense of humor and quick wit, so we kept in touch over the years. In 2018, after bonding over the most recent John Mulaney comedy special, we decided to go on a "day date" hike in the woods. It was like we reconnected at the perfect place and time in both of our lives. The rest is history.
In 2020, Casey planned a trip for my birthday in June to Shenandoah National Park in Virginia. We ended up rescheduling to September due to the pandemic, so I didn't think much of it. I had many hikes planned out, and saved the most strenuous hike for our first day there, September 26th. This hike was to a scenic overlook and mountain peak with an elevation of 4,300 ft. It was straight up hill for 2-3 miles, so naturally we were both struggling. When we reached the top, I went to snap a photo of the mountain and turned around to Casey and our dog honey, down on one knee. I originally thought Casey fell as the rocks were very slippery so my immediate reaction was to help him up. However, that was not the case and he asked if he could marry me. Honey and I both said yes.
