The day we get married will be exactly five years from the day I hopped on a train, in the middle of a pandemic, to go see about a girl. I had barely even left the house for seven months, so getting on public transport to Philadelphia was a pretty big deal at the time. I still remember getting off the train at the lovely Temple University station and seeing Lexi in-person for the first time. Her hair was already a different color than it was on our last video call, but besides that, I felt like I already knew her. I instantly felt at ease, which is usually impossible for me. Our first date was the perfect glimpse into the years to come. Besides a trip to the movies, we did the exact same thing we do today when we have a weekend to ourselves – coffee plus bookstore. From the expression on her face, you would have thought it was her first time in Barnes and Noble, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is right where she was before meeting me at the train station. She studied the cover of each book with such childlike awe and a never-ending smile. I would soon take countless train rides to the city to see that smile again and again. ____________________________________________________________________________ They say love happens at first sight. When I first saw Liam, I had no idea that he would be the man I would marry. But looking back, the signs were always there and as clear as day. I met him on a dirty sidewalk outside a train station in Philadelphia. It was the middle of my undergrad experience and the middle of a pandemic. We had been chatting online and facetiming consistently for months. I remember feeling so nervous when I spotted him coming down the street. When he asked me what we should do, I said the first thing that came to mind – getting coffee and going to Barnes and Noble. We ended up spending hours doing all my favorite things – even though he didn’t really drink coffee or read books. He carried my books, bought me coffee, and held the doors. He was a perfect gentleman. Later that night, I went home and gushed to my friends about the charming prince who had swept me off my feet. He had been kind, funny, smart, and the most caring soul I had ever met, and I knew I wanted to keep him in my life. To this day, he continues to hold my books, buy me coffee, and sweep me off my feet.
