It was February 2018, when these two Arizona Wildcat alumni, living in San Francisco, went out with separate Arizona friend groups. They wound up standing next to each other at the Blue Light bar and hitting it off. Alexis was out with some Arizona nursing school friends, one of whom took at least 20 photos and videos (Shoutout to Anne for introducing us!) of Alexis and Max dancing together and dominating the beer pong table at Bar None. That night turned into a few dates, including their favorite local music festival, Outside Lands. Despite the initial spark between them and Max’s best effort to leave a favorite Warriors hat at her home, things started to fizzle out and the two continued on with their single lives. As the cliche goes for many love stories, all good things come to those that wait. As fate would have it, the two reconnected in February of 2020, one month prior to California’s shelter-in-place. Their shared love of live music brought them together again at a Jungle concert. Not unintentionally, Alexis had even held on to Max’s favorite hat through a move! During the short time between the Jungle concert and the world quickly shutting down, Alexis had an unfortunate accident where she severed a nerve in her hand. She was lucky to have good friends, including Max, close by who helped her navigate through the shutdown without use of her dominant hand. Their first pandemic date was walking in Golden Gate Park, equipped with masks, sanitizer and lots of distance. Through the uncertainty of the world and Alexis’ injury, the two stayed by each other’s side and started to fall in love. One of the things they loved most about each other was their love and commitment to family. Their first long road trip together was to Tucson, Arizona to visit Alexis’ family. They both shared a love for the school, scenery, culture, and of course, the food of the Old Pueblo. Alexis first met Max’s family though a few large zoom calls of 13 people. She finally met the whole family in-person at Bubbie’s (Max’s grandma) birthday celebration, the first of many she would celebrate with the family. In October of 2020, Alexis called Max about a stray kitten that was left stranded in her yard. She didn’t know what to do. Despite Max’s allergy to cats, they researched how to care for kittens who were feral and fearful. Although initially unsure and skeptical, Max and Alexis learned how to earn the love and trust of their first fur baby, Pico and started a family of their own. After moving into their first home together, taking many trips together and with friends and family, attending more fun music shows, countless weddings and adopting another fur baby, Nacho, they are ready and excited to celebrate their marriage with all of their favorite people!
