It all began in the summer of 2011 when Michael’s Wisco frat brothers convinced him to work at a sleepaway camp where he was completely out of his element but unknowingly walking into Laura’s childhood stomping grounds. Though they barely acknowledged each other that summer , there was an unstated vibe. Subtle stares from across the sports field let the other know there was interest. By then, Laura had already declared to a mutual friend that she thought Michael was cute. However, Michael had a girlfriend, so the stars weren’t aligning just yet. Fast forward a little later, Michael slid into Laura’s Facebook DMs (classic 2010s move) after hearing she thought he was cute. He conveniently let her know he’d be visiting her college and suggested meeting up. Unfortunately, those plans fizzled—likely derailed by an AePi pregame or a night out at Skeeps. Fast forward nearly a decade to 2020. Laura was swiping on Bumble during the pandemic boredom when she stumbled upon a familiar face—none other than Mr. Michael Lefco himself. Sparks started flying via chat… until Laura accidentally gave him the wrong number. Michael waited (and waited) for her text back until Laura followed up with, “Hey, where’d you go?!” Once they sorted out the digits, they set up a date. Their first date in May 2020 was a pandemic-era classic: to-go cocktails, a public park, and Laura’s dog Arthur tagging along as a furry third wheel. Michael made the epic trek from the Upper East Side to Bushwick, and three to-go pitchers later, they both realized this might be something real. After long-distance dating through the social distancing era, Laura eventually convinced Michael to make the bold move to Bushwick, where he became a proud dog dad to Arthur and embraced his Brooklyn life. Since then, they’ve built a life full of love, laughs, and only the occasional awkward DM.
