Our Story

Two engineering students walk into quidditch tryouts...and ten years later, they're getting hitched! Dan and Rebecca's story is not a typical meet cute. They became friends as members of the University of Utah's quidditch team the Crimson Elite, spending time together at tournaments, study sessions, and parties between 2014 and 2016. They saw less of each other after that, but this changed in the Spring of 2018. Dan and Rebecca both attended the university commencement ceremony in May 2018. Rebecca walked over to Dan to get a picture. Neither of them expected that this would be the start of something much more. They started spending time together over the summer. Rebecca would often drive up to the house at Solitude Mountain Resort where Dan was living and working. After Rebecca accepted a job in Portland, OR, Dan offered to drive out with her to look for apartments. The two had a blast together experiencing the Pacific Northwest for the first time. When it was time for Rebecca to move, they both knew there was no chance they were going to break up. What had originally looked like it might be a fun summer thing had bloomed quickly into something more. In November of that year, Rebecca came back to Salt Lake City to visit for a long weekend. Dan and Rebecca drove up to Snowbird Ski Resort, where they took the tram up to the top of Hidden Peak. It was 10 degrees out, windy, and snowy. Dan ran around outside capturing beautiful pictures of the mountain and dynamic weather. At some point as she was watching this, Rebecca decided she had to tell Dan that she loved him. She waited until they were back at the bottom of the tram, standing in the courtyard under string lights. It was a beautiful moment, to say the least. Dan moved out to Portland, OR in the beginning of 2019. The couple spent a lot of time enjoying what the Portland area had to offer: hiking, backpacking, skiing, and great food to name a few. They adopted their cat Max during the pandemic and made the best of their time together during lockdown. After the pandemic, the couple were both working remotely and decided to make the move to Bend, OR. A few of their friends helped to pack a truck in January 2022 and then they were on their way! Bend turned out to be a great fit for the couple. They joined a rock climbing club that evolved into a network of wonderful friends. In April 2023, Dan and Rebecca drove up to Vantage, WA with a group of friends to camp and rock climb. Prior to the trip, Rebecca broke the news to both of their families and to their friends that she was planning to propose. They arrived home from the trip to decorations planted in their apartment by one of their friends. Rebecca had a prepared speech but broke down as she pulled out the ring and ended up with "I got this for you. Do you want to do laundry and taxes with me?" - this last bit is a reference to the movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once." Dan said yes, but also requested a "real" proposal. Rebecca got down on one knee and officially asked him to marry her. Engagement photo gallery: https://ldp.littledaisyphotography.com/-rebeccadan/gallery
