A Guide to Malta

The island is small. With no traffic, you can drive from one end of Malta to the other in around 45–60 minutes. We travelled from St Paul’s Bay to Valletta and it took around 20 minutes in a Bolt taxi. Our wedding venue is approximately 20–30 minutes from four main areas: St Paul’s Bay, Valletta, St Julian’s, and Mellieħa. We will be arranging a bus for our guests based on where the majority book. Guests staying elsewhere can easily travel by taxi, as distances are short and prices are generally low. The main taxi app used in Malta is Bolt. A 25-minute journey typically costs around €15–€20. We will be staying in St Paul’s Bay for 10 days (16th–26th July). This was the best choice for us with the children, and for the ease of travelling with our bridal party.
Question

Valletta:

Answer

If you are looking for history and elegance, Valletta is the location for you. Valletta is Malta’s capital city, known for its boutique-style hotels and beautiful architecture. It has a refined and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for anyone wanting a scenic and authentic experience. It is also great for shopping, with plenty of recognisable brands including Zara, Matalan, Cinnabon, and SPAR, alongside many bars and food options. It is definitely a spot full of hidden gems. Even if you are not staying in Valletta, we would highly recommend a day trip. Best for: - Boutique-style hotels - History and sightseeing - A quieter atmosphere Things to note: - Hilly streets and steps

Question

St Julians

Answer

Malta’s busiest and most cosmopolitan area, known for its restaurants, bars, nightlife, and large hotels. Spinola Bay and Balluta are lively and scenic, while Paceville is Malta’s main nightlife district. Best for: - Groups and younger guests - Nightlife and restaurant spots - Large hotels and apartments Things to note: - Can be noisy, especially near Paceville - Traffic and congestion are common

Question

Mellieha

Answer

Mellieħa is a town in northern Malta. Although we did not get the chance to stay there ourselves, we have heard it offers beautiful hotels and is ideal for a relaxed, beach-style stay. Many of Malta’s beaches are rocky; however, Mellieħa is known for its sandy beaches. Even if you are not staying here, its recommended to visit for the beach itself. Best for: - Easy access to the Gozo ferry for island hopping - Sandy beaches - Resort style hotels Things to note: - Less nightlife - Further away from Malta’s capital, Valletta

Question

St Pauls Bay

Answer

St Paul’s Bay is where we will be staying with our bridal party. We chose this area because it is easier for us to travel from and offers a quieter option for families with children. St Paul’s Bay has a long promenade, beautiful sea views, and easy access to many boat trips. Best for: Families or groups - A relaxed atmosphere - Resort-style accommodation Things to note: - Less nightlife than other areas in Malta - St Paul’s Bay, Buġibba, and Qawra all blend together, so many travellers do not notice when they move between them as they are so close together
