The Story of Us

High School Crushes to Husband and Wife

Most of you don’t know that we dated in high school for a week—but we did. Freshman year. Then we went our separate ways, only to find out that the universe had us in the same places on more than one occasion. It gets better, though. We both traveled, lived in different states, explored college, and somehow ended up back in Sussex County. Right before I moved back, I almost considered going to Arizona… but something told me not to. So I signed an expensive lease and moved 30 minutes down the road from Levi—without even knowing it. Almost exactly a month after moving back, we rekindled through our group of friends. We played some darts and pool—of course I beat him in pool… darts is another story. During those games, we caught up, realized we weren’t the same high school kids anymore, and though the sparks were definitely there, they had been buried. Neither of us was looking for anything at the time, but once again, the universe put us in the same place at the same time for a reason. Shortly after that night, Levi reached out to me, and we went on a first date—right back where we had rekindled. We hit it off so naturally. I was nervous, of course, but there was no awkwardness. We just kept joking around all night. Levi had the whole bar laughing, and by the time we were parting ways, the bartender had even zeroed out our tab. The universe was working hard for this match. Once we realized we did want to keep seeing each other, we went on an actual first date. He planned everything—and the rest is history. The saying “you never know who you’re going to marry” is so true. My soon-to-be husband has been in my life for over 10 years. The timing just had to be perfect, and once it was, the universe did the rest.
