Sunscreen ban In 2019, the US Virgin Islands became the first US state to ban the sale of sunscreens containing oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octocrylene, which are known to harm coral reefs. Visitors and residents are encouraged to use reef-safe mineral sunscreens or protective clothing. Indigenous Species Act This act protects all native plants and animals in the US Virgin Islands, including coral, shells, and other marine life. It is illegal to take, catch, injure, harass, or kill any native animal or plant. Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument Extractive uses are prohibited within the monument, including the collection of fish, corals, sponges, and other reef invertebrates. Some exceptions include bait fishing and blue runner line fishing
No! Passports are not required for US Citizens as the USVI is United States territory. However, we do recommend bringing a passport if you plan on going to the BVI (British Virgin Islands). A passport is required to get into the BVI as it is British territory.
There are no Ubers or Lyfts on St. Thomas. There are taxis all over but if you are staying more than 3 days, we recommend renting a car. Please keep in mind Taxi service prices range from $15-$60 per ride. There is an app called Cari that works similarly to Uber/ Lyft.
