How We Met

First comes golf, then comes marriage.

Bryan and Danielle had no intention of finding a sure thing online, but lo and behold, they met on an online dating app in 2019. After several days of conversation and both deciding they were normal people, they grabbed a drink at their favorite local bar, Carney's Pub. When Bryan showed up in a truck, boots, and jeans, Danielle knew he was one of the good ones. Walking into Carney's together, love was in the air. It was the night before Valentine's, after all. They sat at the first booth by the front door, ordered Lonestar Tall Boys, and talked about school, their family's bay houses, and growing up fishing in Matagorda Bay. Over the next several months, they began hanging out more and more. Since that first night, Danielle kept telling Bryan he looked familiar but she just could't quite figure out from where. He threw out ideas like maybe he Ubered her one time, or they passed each other at Northgate (a favorite spot among Aggies). Danielle's gut was telling her that wasn't it. One Saturday after coming home from work, Bryan and Danielle decided to hit up the driving range and smack around some golf balls, but they had to clean Danielle's golf clubs first. Although their relationship was new, it was going so well that Danielle decided she was comfortable enough to tell him about the last time she went to the driving range where she hit on a complete stranger. The first (and last) time she ever did that. Flash back to 2016: It was a random Wednesday that Danielle wasn't working at the hospital and the weather was too perfect to stay inside and study. After going to the store for golf balls and tees, she made her way to Bryan Municipal Golf Course and was there for awhile when a tall and very handsome guy came around with his clubs. At this point she was getting bored, so she began to hit the golf balls into the nearby lake. This good-looking gentleman, with no wedding ring, and no significant other in sight, struck up a conversation. It started off with this random guy joking about the direction of the driving range being completely opposite of where Danielle was hitting and eventually led into talking about life, school, and work. Danielle eventually ran out of golf balls and told this kind stranger that her time was up. She slowly walked up the hill to her car overlooking where they were both just wasting the day away and avoiding all life's responsibilities. As she got in her car and sat there, she got an overwhelming urge to give the stranger her number. Fifteen minutes of working up the courage, and many glances from the good-looking stranger down the hill, Danielle finally wrote her number on a receipt, walked back down that hill, and asked, "I don't do this often and you seem like a pretty cool dude, so if you'd like, maybe we can grab a drink or play a round of golf sometime?" He was flattered, but she was met with the dreaded, "I appreciate the offer, but I have a girlfriend." Danielle is pretty sure she said, "Of course you do. Take care," and immediately turned around, probably red with embarrassment, and quickly got away. As Danielle is telling Bryan this story while cleaning her golf clubs in the kitchen, his jaw is on the floor. "That was me!" he practically screamed. He then showed Danielle a picture of where she was parked and said he remembers that day because in that moment he wished he didn't have a girlfriend. Danielle had honestly pushed that moment she hit on a guy so far back into her memory, but three years later, she found herself retelling it to the stranger she had met all that time ago on that perfect sunny Wednesday. Fast forward 7 years. After many birthdays, holidays, Aggie game days together, and their big move from College Station, Bryan finally popped the question! Not only did he get down on one knee, but he proposed where they had their first date...at the first booth by the front door of their favorite bar in College Station: Carney's Pub.
