The Cancun airport is very overwhelming. Here are some things we have learned over the years of going that we wish we knew the first time. Follow signs for immigration/passport control Many travelers can use the new automated electronic kiosks (e-gates) instead of waiting in line for customs (where they stamp your passport). You just scan your passport and follow the prompts. PLEASE keep the small printed immigration receipt/slip from the electronic kiosk (store in passport). You may be asked to show this when leaving Mexico, by your airline or immigration. After immigration, collect your luggage and proceed towards the exit. You will walk through a large area where the guards and drug sniffing dogs are located. This is completely normal- keep your bags with you, keep walking, follow directions. Politely ignore anyone trying to sell you a taxi, tequila, timeshare, or adventure tour. We call this area the "shark tank." It is after customs, before the exit. Keep walking. Personally, I do not make eye contact. Just say no. They will look and sound believable, like they are associated with the hotels- DO NOT listen. Walk until you get outside. Once outside, you can grab yourself a cocktail or beer to go and locate the transportation booked. Next stop- Dreams Jade!
