Chance and I had a few connections before we even met. For example, he used to sit me at tables when he worked at Cracker Barrell. We never fully crossed paths until he wanted to hang out a week before he left for college. I declined him a few times, but I decided it was about time to see him. He was late — of course — for our first time meeting. We went to Palmer’s Point, had a lovely conversation, and drove around. We ended up at his old soccer field. It had started to rain, and a rainbow appeared. I think it was a sign from the universe that he and I were meant to be. I played hard to get for a while, but all of that paid off in the long run! We’ve survived college, the loss of friends and family, and there is no one else I would rather have by my side for the rest of my life.
Not long after he and I started dating, Chance popped the question. It was very unexpected, and it definetly made me burst into tears. We decided to take a trip to Myrtle Beach during our vacation from college during the awinter of 2021. I had researched, planned, and reserved where we stayed. We packed up my car on January 7th and headed to our happy place. Our room sat right on the water. We could see the ocean, smell the salty air, and see the stunning sunrise — when I say stunning, I mean stunning. One morning, it was bright and sunny. I had made breakfast for us, had some coffee, and we both came inside. Chance loves to play the guitar, so when he picked it up while we were laying on the couch, I didn’t expect anything different from the usual. This time, he played some songs, but switched to a different tune. He recited a beautiful, heartfelt poem that he wrote for me — and I’d like to say I’m the poet in this relationship (I’m definately not). When I say I was a hot mess of tears, I was a hot mess of tears. “Well, since you’re already crying...” He bent down, got on his knee, and before he could even propose to me, I was crying even harder. We laid on the couch, and he finally asked, “Will you marry me?” He asked me to be his wife on January 8th, 2021. Ever since then, I couldn’t wait to be Mrs. Melton.
