Back in the summer of 2011, I was interning in Cedar Falls, IA at a Target distribution center. I remember first meeting Taylor when I popped my head into a conference room full of headquarters visitors to introduce myself. It was short and brief, so that I didn't embarrass myself, but I still remember he was wearing a plaid shirt and his hair wasn't done. At that time, my general manager pulled me aside and told me that because I was young and single (not tied down), that I should get a job in Minneapolis after graduation and work at the corporate offices - which I couldn't argue with that! So he set up a day for me to tag along with Stephanie Korchik's team (the team which Taylor was on) to get the corporate culture vibe. During the team meeting, I specifically recall his boss Stephanie called him out for being single! The thought triggered in my mind "Oh yea?!" After graduation, I started my first job at Target's corporate offices. Since I didn't know many people there, I reached out to all those on Stephanie's team to reconnect so that I could start establishing a network. This included Taylor. We walked and talked around the skyways of Minneapolis and long story short, we ended up taking a road trip that July down to Clear Lake, IA for a boating weekend. We played the 21 questions game to kill the time on the way down to the lake and when we got back he asked me on our first date: Urban Eatery near Lake Calhoun. The rest is history.
In late 2010 while living in Iowa, I worked an Iowa State Career Fair. Along with HR, we came across a great looking resume that piqued our interest. After setting it aside, a lovely young lady approached our booth and put a face to the name on the great looking supply chain resume. I blacked out after that... No, but turns out I didn't make much of an impression because Target did hire Leslie as a summer intern, but she has no recollection of the career fair interaction! Not long after the ISU meeting I relocated to Minneapolis only to have several more encounters with Leslie that she and I both could not keep denying! I ran into her on a field visit, she was recommended to meet with me in a one-on one meeting, then finally we ran into one another one night out in downtown Minneapolis. I'll never forget the really loud yell from across Cowboy Jacks when she spotted me from about 75 feet away. I was out with James Watkins who was visiting from Little Rock and she was out with a gaggle of girls. The rest was history. We all stayed up till about 4 am that night, and from that point forward, regardless of when we ACTUALLY met, we have lived lives that have been put together by the man above!
