We were both attending San Jacinto Community College at the same time. We met each other in Film Appreciation class. We were given an assignment to watch a movie and write a paper over on the different perspectives of the movie. Austin was sitting in the seat next to me, When he nonchalantly asked, "Do you want to see this movie together?" Little did I know this was our first date. From that day we were inseparable.
We went to Colorado with our friends and family for a vacation. We were so excited because neither of us had ever been. I told Austin that we needed to visit Dream Lake. It was the one place I really wanted to see during the entire trip. It was the first place we hiked to on the trip. When we made it to Dream Lake the view was breathtaking. I was so astonished at how beautiful the mountains and lake were. I sat down on a rock and asked my friend to take a picture of me with the view in the background. She told me how to pose for the picture and then she told me to turn to my left. It took me a minute to realize, but when I turned the first thing I saw was Austin's face and when I looked down, there it was!!! Austin was on one knee and he held a red box with a ring inside. My best friend had asked me to marry him and I said "YES!" We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter of our lives with you! See you in Cancun, Mexico!
Little did we know that God had faced us with a new challenge. On November 6th, 2020, Austin was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It was the worst day of our lives. We didn't know what was going to happen to Austin and just prayed that he will beat this cancer. We were also facing this challenging times with Covid-19, making everything harder. I visited Austin everyday at the hospital until they stopped visitation. We were blessed that he received great treatments at LBJ Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center. After the first couple of chemotherapy treatments, Austin was already in remission. Soon followed was the approval the his Stem Cell Transplant that would help him to be cured of his disease. God is good. We stayed together through this rough journey and now we're getting married.
