They met in biology class at the National Hispanic University. He laughed when the professor mispronounced "Julieta" and so she shot him a death glare and quickly decided that she didn't like him. A couple of days later, the professor asked everyone in the back of the class to come and sit to the front. She looked around and all the seats have been taken, until he stood up and offered her his seat. That's when she decided, "he might not be so bad" and the rest is history.

Leonardo planned a trip for the both of them to the island of Kauai. To celebrate their monthiversary, he made plans to take an island tour with a local resident. They toured different parts of the island, went to say a prayer at a Buddhist temple and did a 20 minute sound meditation. After the meditation was over, they asked to take a picture and as they were getting ready to take the "picture," Leonardo looked at her, told her how much he appreciated and loved her, got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, she said "YES!"
