No day spent walking and sightseeing in the Centro Histórico (Historic Center) is complete without visiting the Basilica de la Inmaculada Concepción. The Basilica (also locally know as the Mazatlán Cathedral) is the main religious building in the city and home of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mazatlán. The Cathedral has Gothic, Moorish, and Baroque influences, reflective of the architectural fashions of its period. Construction began in 1856 and was completed in 1899.
The Plaza Machado (also called Plazuela Machado) is a beautiful old square (zocalo) in the Historic Old Town of Mazatlán. The plaza is lined with outdoor and indoor restaurants, a theatre, and a hotel. It is the most popular square in Mazatlán for dining and events and is considered the cultural center of Mazatlán!
