Question

How far in advance should I book flights?

Answer

Flights will get more expensive the closer we get to the summer. Booking before end of March should get you the best deals. If you see a price below $800 round trip, that's a good offer.

Question

What is the COVID situation in the UK?

Answer

As in the US, the COVID situation is ever changing in the UK. Most airlines are offering no questions asked refund policies on their flights. We have travelled with British Airways, Aer Lingus and American Airlines during COVID and have been impressed with their service level + safety procedures. The UK uses a traffic light system with varying levels of quarantine periods/testing rules. Currently the US is on the green list meaning minimal restrictions for vaccinated travelers. If you plan to visit a country in mainland Europe before coming to the UK, check entry rules from that country. Quarantine/testing rules are different depending on vaccination status so please check the Scottish gov website for most up to date entry requirements: https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-international-travel-quarantine/ For the past two years, cases have dropped low enough in the summer for the UK to enjoy minimal restrictions. We are hoping that stays the same this year too!

Question

When should I arrive to Scotland?

Answer

Jet lag going from the US to UK can be a little tough - the UK is 8 hours ahead of Seattle, 6 hours ahead of Chicago. If you can, arriving somewhere in Europe 2-3 days ahead of time would help you adjust. We also recommend bringing some Z-Quil/NyQuil - you can't get it over the counter in the UK.

Question

Where else could I visit when I'm there?

Answer

If you want to stay in Scotland - the highlands and islands of Scotland are amazing for getting outdoors and into the Scottish landscapes you often see in movies/pictures. Edinburgh is a great city for staying more central. Farther afield in the UK - London is an easy flight and a fun place to see. There are direct flights back to the US from London too. For anyone looking to make an extended trip - mainland Europe is 2-3 hours flight from Scotland. Regional airlines like RyanAir + EasyJet (equivalent of Spirit or SouthWest) offer great prices. Some places to consider: - The South of France = our favourite European destination. Staying around St. Tropez/Cannes allows for an easy day trip into Monaco. - Croatia is an "up and coming" location where your $$s will go far. - Island hopping in Greece - Santorini, Mykonos, Paros making for a v romantic trip. - Amalfi coast in Italy. - Barcelona in Spain - architecture, art, great food + fun nightlife. There is so much to do.
