Consumerism Mecca with a theme park in the middle and an aquarium underneath? This is the place. Andrew recommends grabbing a Caribou Coffee and walking all three floors. Paige’s favorite? Also Caribou, add in a Cinnabon and sitting on the edge of the food court overlooking the theme park(it will always be Camp Snoopy to her) and Lego land.
One of the best places Paige and Andrew have dined. Chef Ann Kim is a James Beard winner and has also been featured on Chef’s Table: Pizza, episode 3 if you’re looking to watch. The restaurant has Nordic influence in the interior and specializes in wood fired pizzas. Also worth mention it’s located in the Vikings Lake training center. Queue the aggressive violin music…
If Minnesota had a little Italy, this would be it! It is a four story Italian experience, complete with an eatery, market, rooftop patios, and patisserie. It’s a must stop at in the heart of downtown St.Paul. Fun fact: all the pictures adorning the walls are old family photos from the Cossetta family, whose three decades later still own and are hands on with the everyday operation.
Closer to the heart of Minneapolis, this park also has tons of hiking and walking trails. And if there isn’t a massive drought like this previous year it has a fantastic waterfall!
So maybe you’re a history buff…then James J. Hill house is a great place to dabble in. He was a railroad tycoon during the dawn of the gilded era and can be accredited for a large part of the expansion of the twin cities. This ginormous mansion, offers daily tours and *almost* overlooks all of downtown St. Paul, ya know the city he pretty much helped construct, and the view is only blocked by the Cathedral of St. Paul. (It’s shady because the Hill’s were proud Protestants, though later on they’d donate the mansion to the Catholic church) It’s located on Summit Avenue which boasts some of the most incredible mansions and historic homes in the state. A little writer named F.Scott Fitzgerald grew up in one of the homes and it’s rumored occasionally you can see the ghost of him as a boy running across the street to his piano teachers home.
