Our Love Story

How we met

Who would have ever thought it would be a tinderella story? Nick and Lenox met on Tinder which is a dating app where you can match up with someone you’re interested in. Nick had a brief profile with a few photos showing off his great smile, hair and of course height. Lenox dosen’t remember exactly what his bio said, but it was along the lines of “I am a HTM major at GVSU, lover of food and wine, 6’8” and no I don’t play basketball.” Being 5’9” and also a HTM major from GV Lenox hoped they would be a match. Sure enough they were and a tinderella story was born!

The Proposal

12/15/2018

It began with simple plans to go out to dinner to one of their favorite French-Italian restaurants Bistro Bella Vista. But lets back up a little bit... Earlier in the winter season Lenox brought up the idea of going to The Nutcraker with Nick. She wanted to show him ballet in the most classical and traditional form. Not to mention, in the same exact performance hall she danced in with the Grand Rapids Ballet back in High School. With Nick’s busy work schedule it never seemed possible. While eating dinner at Bistro Bella Vita, Nick shared his first surprise of the night with two tickets to see the Saturday night performance of the Nutracker! Lenox couldn’t have been more thrilled and little did she know, the night would only get better. They enjoyed the entire performance. Funny fact: before the show they got some wine and M&M’s to sip on and eat. Nick being as nervous as he was, spilled the M&M’s during the ballet and anyone around could hear them bounce and fall down the seats. Nick was so embarrassed! Once the ballet was over Lenox ran to the restroom and came back to Nick talking to a young woman that worked for the Grand Rapids Ballet. She escorted them both back stage to meet the professional dancers of the show, as well as see the stage itself. While walking backstage it reminded Lenox of when she ran around with her ballerina costumes and pointe shoes. It brought back so many wonderful memories and she was thrilled to be able to share those times with Nick. When they approached the curtains, Nick grabbed Lenox’s hand and lead her center stage (mind you, the performace hall had cleared out by then). This is when Nick got down on one knee and asked Lenox to be his wife, and she said yes! They cried and they laughed. To Lenox, it was amazing that Nick brought her back to a special time in her life: performing at the DeVos Hall. Now she can share it with her forever love.
