We first met on the dating app Bumble in late 2020 and immediately hit it off. Julia was impressed by Matt’s deep kindness, thoughtfulness, and delightful dorkiness; Matt was taken with Julia’s impish sense of humor, sweetness, and chaotic energy. After texting back and forth constantly for a few weeks, we decided to meet up in person for a masked and socially distanced walk through Central Park. In classic fashion, Matt arrived five minutes early with Dunkin Donuts coffees for the walk; Julia arrived twenty minutes late and knocked them over. Despite this early setback, we walked through the park for hours. When it was time to head home, we each reached into our bags and (both of us thinking we were pulling off a cute first-date-surprise) pulled out gifts that we’d brought for each other: Matt gave Julia candied popcorn, and Julia gave Matt fresh, homemade bread. Over the past three years, our relationship grew deeper, and every day has been.... well, awesome, actually. We were challenged by a full year of long distance as we both worked on out-of-town theatre contracts - we only grew closer despite the distance (and now Matt has Amtrak Select status, not to brag). We moved in together, and now spend many an evening playing games, finding a cool spot to try new foods, singing acoustic covers of musical theatre songs to our cat, or just basking in being <1 foot apart instead of 250 miles. Nowadays, we still take that same walk through Central Park with Dunkin in hand. In mid-February, 2024, Matt proposed in the same spot where we first met, and Julia said yes! And now we’re absolutely giddy with excitement to be tying the knot with all our loved ones (well, all except for our tabby cat, Tony, who has a prior engagement).
