How They Met and First Date

After Lenis graduated residency, she felt she needed to find herself again. She had gained some weight and had not spent any time on hobbies nor other activities outside medicine. So, she found a great job, adopted lots of pets and found a place to call home. Once settled she decided to get back in shape and rejoin activities she loved to do, such as martial arts. Tyler is the owner and main instructor of the American Martial Arts Systems Kenpo school in Cheyenne, WY. Lenis called his school for an introductory lesson and so they met. Six months later, after getting to know each other better by staying late after class to chat, Tyler asked Lenis out on their first date to dinner and a live music show in Fort Collins, CO. Dinner went great but they missed most of the live show walking down the streets of old town Fort Collins, deep in conversation, laughter and lots of hand holding!

The Proposal

Talk of marriage and forever was in the air but nothing was set in stone. The couple knew they loved each other and wanted to spend their lives together but they were both, dare I say insecure about how serious their commitment was to each other. Finally, Tyler decided to take the plunge and, on Lenis’ birthday, he proposed they be married over dinner. He had intended to go to the restaurant they first went to on their first date but Lenis (not knowing his intention to propose) did not want to travel so far for dinner as it was late on a work night. They ended up going to a local chain restaurant for dinner instead. Tyler seemed strange the whole dinner. He ordered a giant margarita which is uncharacteristic, and kept making eye contact with a very smiley waitress to the annoyance of Lenis. Finally, after dinner was done, he asked the smiley waitress to take their picture. He told Lenis they didn’t have enough pictures together and her birthday was an occasion worth remembering. Made sense. He stood up and gave his phone to the waitress while Lenis posed for the picture, oblivious, waiting for him to sit back down. He never did. When she turned to see what was taking him so long, she saw him down on one knee next to their booth. She said yes!!
