Lena and Saeed met for the first time on the BART, the train in the SF Bay Area. Lena had just finished a half marathon race in SF, and Saeed was taking the train to meet friends for a Sunday brunch. Saeed says hello to Lena, and they talk for 2 minutes before they coincidentally get off at the same stop - Rockridge Station. The meet and greet continues for the two strangers as they ride down the escalator. They were about to depart, but Saeed asked Lena for her number so he could show her some cool places to run. Taking a leap of faith, Lena gives Saeed her number. Their first date two days later was a bold 4 mile run in a redwood forest in Oakland. The next couple of weeks, Lena and Saeed spent as many days as they could together before Lena’s time in the Bay Area was over. After two weeks of getting to know each other, Lena moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts to start a premedical program and Saeed stayed in East Palo Alto where he was working. They developed a relationship 3000 miles away for their first year of dating, which included countless hours. In 2019, Saeed relocated his job to Cambridge, and the couple finally had the chance to get to know each other while living in the same city. They loved running together, visiting Walden Pond, hiking the White Mountains, cooking dinner, and simply being only 2 miles away from each other. Their favorite part of being a couple is the excitement they share for spending time together everyday. Saeed proposed to Lena in the Northern California coastline on a 5 day backpacking trip. Though Saeed had been planning it for months, the proposal was a complete surprise for Lena. They had just finished walking 8 miles along the rugged California coast and decided to rest and set up camp 50ft from the beach. As they were sitting on the beach and enjoying the outstanding views of the ocean, Saeed pulls out a ring from his cargo pants’ pocket and asks Lena if she would like to be his lifelong teammate.
