How We Met

Longest and Best First Date Ever

The first time we met was at Restoration Church's young adult group (The Well) in the summer of 2022. After service one week, Tyler approached the worship band and expressed interest in playing acoustic guitar. A guitar was handed over and Tyler played his go-to song, Why Georgia by John Mayer. Immediately Tyler was invited to play on Thursdays. However, Lelia brought up the point that not just anyone should play on the worship team and asked the question, "Well, do you even like Jesus?" After several months of playing at The Well together, we talked after the service almost every week. At the time, Tyler was still in his final year at Kennesaw State and enrolled in a statistics class. In conversation, we discussed stats and how difficult that particular class was. Considering Lelia majored in Economics and Statistics at the University of North Carolina (Go Heels!), it was a common talking point. We later met over coffee, where Lelia helped with Tyler's stats homework. Although the coffee date was not an official "date" (and Lelia is adamant that it was not a date - she has diary entries that back this stance), we spent around 6 hours at the coffee shop, with only 2 hours of studying. On this "date," Lelia mentioned the Cumberland Island camping trip with a group from church. Tyler commented that he would rather save money than go on the trip, although later realized that this was the perfect opportunity to get to know Lelia. So, we both signed up to go on the weekend camping trip. About 2 days before leaving for the trip, Lelia was unsure of whether she could go on the trip due to a major project that came up at work. The night before the trip, Lelia officially cancelled... leaving Tyler going solo with a group of 20 people that he only met once before. Tyler called Lelia that night and asked her out to dinner and was promptly told "no... for now." Tyler went on the camping trip and enjoyed the weekend of fellowship, but had to deal with Lelia's "no". After the trip, Lelia clarified her "no" was to dinner, but she would compromise with a hike at Kennesaw Mountain. A few weeks later, we attended church then went to Kennesaw for a 6 mile hike. We then decided to make our first date the best and longest date ever by going to the Battery to see Party Nation perform and watch the baseball game on the green. When trying to find parking, Lelia insisted we shouldn't pay for parking so we parked at Tyler's workplace and walked from there. In total we walked around 15 miles on our first date. We greatly enjoyed the first 15 miles of our never ending walk together.

For all the days along the way
