How We Met

The ACES Way

Leisha's POV: We first officially met at our first ever staff meeting when we were hired to be a part of a team, called The ACES (Assistant Coaches for Excellence and Success), at Southern Utah University. I remembered Max as the RA on the fourth floor of one of the dorms, where I would meet up with some friends to play D&D! Max's POV: We met at the introductory staff meeting for our favorite job of our college careers at Southern Utah University. I remembered Leisha because she brought her roommate's dog, Barney, with her to the meeting.

How We Started

When You Wish Upon a Star...

Leisha's POV: It was Friday night in February, and I was feeling kind of down. Around midnight, I got a Snapchat from Max, saying, "Put your shoes on, we're going for a drive." As we drove, I vented and he listened patiently. We drove about 25 minutes up the canyon before Max realized he was running out of gas! We pulled off to the side of the road, and he opened the windows and the sunroof. He started telling me about the constellations we could see. When he held my hand, I knew something was different. When we started shivering, we decided to grab some gas and head over to his house for a movie. I had NEVER been to his house before, so when we were at the gas station, I texted my friend Cody (absolutely freaking out) that I thought he was going to kiss me. Sure enough, during the scene in La La Land where they're in the planetarium, as we cuddled close, Max kissed me. Max's POV: It was a cold night in February and I was headed home around midnight from a group homework session. I knew that Leisha was having a rough day, so I made a quick decision at an intersection and sent her a text telling her to put her shoes on. We went from a drive up the canyon just to look at the stars and talk. I realized quickly that I was running out of gas so we pulled over to continue our conversation and turn off the car. As I tried to show off my constellation knowledge, I saw a shooting star. She didn't though. Then Leisha said she saw one, but I didn't see that one. Then, as we both went quiet, we saw one together, and the song that became our song came on. I held her hand and we drove back down the canyon in quiet bliss.

How He Proposed

12.21.21

Leisha's POV I had no idea at all that the proposal was happening that day. Everything was so normal! We even watched the season five finale of Castle where *SPOILER*, he proposes to Beckett! Max wanted to take me to Tavern in the Square, which is my favorite restaurant of all time. We've gone a few times together casually, so I didn't think anything of it. Max tried really hard to get me to dress up, but the 30 degree weather outside begged to differ! He was his normal, gentlemanly self, opening my doors, holding my hand, talking to me about nothing and everything. We ordered my favorites, and dinner flew by! I didn't want to get dessert at the restaurant, so we went to the store to grab a pint of ice cream before making our way home. Max's mom called, and asked if we could stop for gas. Max fought it kind of hard, but Mom really laid into him, so we went ahead and threw $10 in the tank. We finally get to the house, and as I'm grabbing our bags to walk in, he tells me to leave them in the car. I was super confused, but he came and grabbed my door, and I noticed that the sidewalk was shoveled. That's when I knew. Max's POV That day was so stressful. Up until that point, I had Leisha convinced that the ring wasn't coming until after Christmas (which, according to the website, it was). But really, it was already in my parents' hands, ready to go. My mom told me that I needed to propose on the 21st because that was the only day we wouldn't be busy. I had gone to Walgreens for some pictures of Leisha and I, but I let Emma take charge of the decorations. I took Leisha on a nice date to her favorite restaurant, we had a great time and she didn't suspect a thing. My mom called us on the way home to stall us by telling us to get gas, but I was oblivious for that moment and tried to tell her that I didn't have enough money. Silly me. We gave them just enough time, though, and we showed up to a quiet house. And then it went perfectly.

For all the days along the way
